I have a new favorite book club, the group Around the World in 80 Books on Goodreads. The group declares it’s purpose simply “to travel the world through books, experiencing new authors and cultures along the way.”
Anyone can join! Here’s how it works. Each month there are several titles to choose from. You can read any or all of them and participate in the book discussion for that book in the forums. Titles are proposed by individual group members and voted on in the group polling section.
The group interprets traveling the world through books broadly. It’s not limited to travel writing and memoir. Classic and contemporary world literature from every genre is represented. Best sellers are read along with timeless novels. The only requirement is that the book have a strong sense of place and help armchair traveler achieve a sense of really being there.
